3. Paint the cabinets
Painting your cabinets is the easiest — and most affordable — way to make the biggest impact in your kitchen.
Just consider a couple of things before choosing the color: Do you want a bold look that contrasts with the walls? Or would you prefer a similar color for a monochromatic flow?
Once you’ve picked the color, follow our guide, “How to Properly Paint Cabinets.”

4. Add splashes of color
Small changes make a big impact, so consider window treatments, décor and even appliances to add splashes of color in the kitchen.
For instance, luxurious curtains add texture and warmth to an otherwise cold, sterile room.
Appliances such as coffee makers, toasters and microwave ovens come in a variety of colors that can change the whole feel of the room.
White and basic black present a clean, modern feel; red and chrome are retro; light blues and greens can be soothing.
Even simple things such as hand towels and oven mitts add to a room’s texture, so consider each item’s materials and design for a look that ties the whole room together.
