I’m considering replacing the old wood siding on my home with new pine siding. Would I gain any benefit from priming both sides of the boards? What should I use, oil or latex, to prime them?

Hi Hal,
I would strongly suggest priming the front, back, edges, and ends of your pine siding with an oil-based exterior primer before installation. Once the siding has been installed, apply two coats of a top of the line latex exterior house paint to it.
If you live in an area that has problems with mildew, I would add M-1 Mildewcide additive in every gallon of paint, including the primer.
