How to Hire a Handyman

Can you give me some advice on how to hire a decent handyman? -Zeb

When hiring someone to work on your home, start by asking how many years they’ve been in business, how they price their work, and if they provide a free estimate. It’s also important to be sure they carry liability insurance. If not, you may be responsible for any medical expenses—or more—if they are injured on the job. Get a complete description in writing of all the work that will be done and exactly how much it will cost. Remember, some jobs are best left to professionals who specialize in the field.

  1. It is usually best to get a quote for a complete job or project rather than an hourly rate, this tends to work better for the customer and the handyman.

It is better for the handyman as they can go for lunch, pickup supplies and materials without the customer feeling as though they are trying to rip them off or on a go-slow for the day.

  2. It is very important to hire the right person to do your handyman projects. There are some cowboys out there so watch out.

  3. I hired a handyman but the job doesn’t meet the standard that I expected, I think this information will help.

  4. Great video, thank you for sharing this one. I like the concept of finding the right handyman before doing the job.

  5. Ask for references and check them out. Don’t be afraid to pick up the phone and call to see if someone was happy with the work they received and the contractor’s conduct. Remember, you are inviting this person into your home. Also ask questions about the handyman’s experience and abilities.

  6. Hiring a handyman and checking his past jobs is a must. You have to know how he did his jobs.
Trust us. We learned the HARD way. 🙁
