I love that LHG offers emergency services, which could be critical if your heating system goes out in the snowy winter.  

    Elite Home Warranty is my second choice for home warranty coverage in New Hampshire, offering some of the best coverage caps I found in my research (up to $6,000 for appliances and up to $10,000 for systems).     New Hampshire Home Warranty Companies I Didn’t Include

    I didn’t include Cinch Home Services on my list of recommended New Hampshire home warranty providers because of their limited coverage options. While Cinch provides coverage for average appliances, systems, and add-ons, other companies on my list, such as Liberty Home Guard, provide many more customization options. Some, such as Elite Home Warranty, offer higher coverage limits as well. 

    Another company I didn’t include on my list is Choice Home Warranty. While Choice offers affordable coverage and excellent customization options, they’ve received the most complaints in New Hampshire of any home warranty company I researched. Choice has received 10 complaints with the New Hampshire Department of Justice since 2021 — six more than the company with the second highest number of complaints of the companies I researched. While two of the complaints found that Choice hadn’t violated the New Hampshire Consumer Protection Act, it’s still a troubling number of complaints to be made to a state agency in three years, and because of this, I’m not comfortable recommending Choice’s plans in New Hampshire.

    I appreciate Liberty Home Guard (LHG)’s dedication to customization, offering low monthly premiums with 42 add-on options — giving you the potential to add coverage ranging from carpet cleaning and a central vacuum to pro-series appliances and a casita guest unit. Liberty is the only company I found that offers add-ons dedicated to regular home maintenance services, such as gutter cleaning and power washing. If you want support in the regular maintenance of your home, or your home has luxury features like pro-series appliances, consider taking advantage of Liberty’s add-on opportunities. I love that Liberty has outstanding customer service and an excellent reputation. The company received numerous strong reviews on trusted review websites, including Yelp, the Better Business Bureau (BBB), Trustpilot, and Google. This gives me confidence that customers are satisfied with their service.

    Even though Liberty’s extensive list of add-ons allows customers the most customized home warranty plan currently on the market, their add-ons are quite a bit more expensive than the industry average, with many costing between $9.99 and $19.99 a month. To compare, the cost for all add-ons with Select Home Warranty is between $3.33 and $5.83 a month, while many of Elite Home Warranty’s cost around $5.99 a month. These add-ons can certainly leave you with a much higher premium, so keep that in mind when adding them to your coverage plan. 

    Liberty Home Guard offers coverage limits capped at $2,000, depending on the plan and the appliance or home system that has broken down. This is at the bottom level of the industry standard, with most home warranty companies offering between $2,000 and $3,000 in coverage limits, which is disappointing and could certainly be a deal-breaker for some. Be sure to read through a sample LHG contract to determine specific payout limits for the appliances and systems you want covered to ensure you aren’t met with surprise financial burdens later. 

    Using Today’s Homeowner’s unique ranking system, Liberty Home Guard earned a score of 9.3 — the highest of any home warranty company on my list for many reasons, including their unmatched customization options. Liberty offers 42 add-ons for you to take advantage of, including carpet cleaning, pest control, and gutter cleaning. 

    LHG also invites customers to request coverage for any home appliances or systems that the company doesn’t currently cover. They ask that you  provide the make and model of your system or appliance and claim they will do their best to determine if they can offer you that specialty coverage. Liberty Home Guard also has helpful and effective customer service, as demonstrated by excellent reviews online, an easy quote process, and an efficient claims process. 

    I don’t like that Liberty’s service fees aren’t clearly listed when requesting a quote online. Most other companies on my list, excluding Elite Home Warranty only, include service fee options in the quote calculator tool offered on their websites. To find the service fee options for Liberty, though, I had to sift through a sample contract. While this isn’t a deal-breaker, it diminished  my customer experience slightly. 

    I also wish that Liberty Home Guard offered higher coverage limits. They currently offer coverage limits of $2,000, which is below average for the industry. That said, if your home has luxury appliances or systems, I encourage you to choose Elite Home Warranty for their above-average coverage limits of up to $6,000 for appliances and up to $10,000 for systems. That said, neither of these issues would be a deal-breaker for me. If your home doesn’t require higher coverage caps, Liberty Home Guard is my top pick for a home warranty service provider in New Hampshire because of their customization options, affordable premiums, and great customer service. 

    Liberty Home Guard offers three plans: Appliance Guard, which covers major home appliances, Systems Guard, which covers major home systems, and Total Home Guard, their most comprehensive plan covering both home appliances and systems. I love that Liberty offers 42 add-ons, far surpassing the industry standard of between six and nine add-ons. Liberty Home Guard is the best home warranty company for customizing your coverage, allowing you to personalize your plan to fit your needs and providing the option for specialty services such as pest control, unique appliances, and casita guest space coverage. Another unique aspect of Liberty’s plans is their 60-day workmanship guarantee, which is double the industry standard, giving you extra protection in case a contractor doesn’t provide optimal quality work for your home. 

    I would go for the Total Home Guard plan if choosing to work with Liberty Home Guard so both my home systems and appliances would be covered. This is the most fiscally prudent choice, as it’s only $10 more than the basic appliance plan in the quotes I received. While I was secretly shopping for a quote, a customer service representative offered me two free months of coverage if I opted to pay annually, saving me between $100 and $120 a year. I was also offered a $250-off coupon via email from my assigned customer service representative, so this provider stands out as well for its wide variety of available discounts. So, make sure to check out their website and get on the phone with a rep to secure your savings.

Despite their add-ons being more expensive than those of competitors, Liberty gives you the option of support for regular maintenance of your home and covering unique home features not typically protected by home warranties, such as pest control, carpet cleaning, and pro-series appliances. If your home has many of these appliances and features, or you want help with regular maintenance, I recommend looking into Liberty for its unmatched add-on options.

    Liberty Home Guard offers three monthly plans: Appliance Guard ($49.99/month), Systems Guard ($54.99/month), and Total Home Guard ($59.99/month). These prices are within the average cost of home warranty coverage, making Liberty an affordable provider. That said, your monthly premium can become costly when choosing add-ons. Liberty’s add-ons are more expensive than those of most of their competitors, with the majority costing between $9.99 and $19.99. While Liberty is one of the more affordable options on this list, it scores an 8.9 because they require a cancellation fee to cancel coverage, and their add-ons are pricier than the industry standard. 

    Keep in mind that Liberty Home Guard offers coverage limited to a $2,000 cap, which is significantly less than other providers like Elite Home Warranty, which has coverage caps up to $6,000 for appliances and $10,000 for systems. That said, if you have unique appliances, such as anything from a pro-series line, or want support in routine maintenance and don’t mind a higher monthly premium after opting for add-ons, Liberty Home Guard is an excellent choice for its impressive customization options.

    Liberty Home Guard scored a 7.8 for customer experience using the Today’s Homeowner unique, customer-centered rating system. I like that the provider offers a simple and easy quote process and a service guarantee. Liberty maintains a 30-day waiting period for coverage to begin after contract signature, which is standard among home warranty companies. That said, Liberty loses ground because it creates multiple points of contact during and after the quotes and claims processes, which can be time consuming for the customer as they are often asked to repeat information to multiple customer service representatives. 

    Even though Liberty Home Guard scored above the industry average for customer experience based on the Today’s Homeowner rating system, the company scored slightly lower here because they are not as transparent with service fees as some of their competitors. When secret shopping, I had to dig to find Liberty’s buried service fees. In contrast, when secret shopping with American Home Shield and First American Home Warranty, I was easily able to determine what their service fees would be as they’re included in the quote calculator tool these companies provide. With Liberty, I had to read through a sample contract to find service fees. This is something Liberty could easily add to their own quote calculator tool to improve their customer experience. 

    Excluding digging for service fees, I found the quote process for Liberty Home Guard to be simple and easy. They provided me with detailed coverage options that I was able to easily and quickly customize with their quote calculator. Liberty Home Guard also includes add-ons in their quote calculator more seamlessly than do their competitors, allowing customers to see how add-ons will affect their monthly premium in real time and from one screen. 

    I awarded Liberty Home Guard the highest company reputation score of any company on my list, again based on our customer-centered model of research and the fact that LHG maintains a high average rating consistently across thousands of reviews — things I haven’t seen from any other home warranty company. Liberty has received numerous reviews that praise the company for following through with their claims — this is incredibly important to me, and is a large part of why Liberty Home Guard is my top recommendation. 

    Liberty’s customers praise the company’s service representatives for being knowledgeable about the industry and transparent about coverage options, add-ons, and exclusions. Other positive reviews highlight the company’s quick turnaround time for claim resolution, as well as good experiences with claim submission. Alternatively, I found negative reviews discussing long wait times for claim resolution, shady business practices around service fee fine print, and insufficient financial credit being given on repairs. I’m unsurprised by negative comments surrounding service fee fine print, as I share a less-than-stellar experience determining service fees with this company. That said, every home warranty company has positive and negative reviews, but Liberty Home Warranty maintains a much higher customer review rating consistently than their competitors. Because of this, the negative reviews wouldn’t deter me from partnering with Liberty to cover my home.

    *Note (as of 4/4/24): The Better Business Bureau recently shifted LHG’s A+ rating to “NR.” We reached out to a representative from the Better Business Bureau, and they told us, “This business is not currently rated. BBB has recently received numerous complaints against this business and will issue a rating after it has fully evaluated them.” When asked about whether they revoke ratings after an increase in complaints, the rep said, “Yes, if they feel they need to review the complaints first before issuing an accurate rating.” This scenario has happened to LHG twice in the last two years, but each time the BBB has restored its A+ rating after a thorough review. 

    Liberty Home Guard earned a 10 for their quick and easy claims process. Liberty promises response to claims within 12 hours, which is average for home warranty companies. They also promise to dispatch a technician to your home within 24 to 48 hours of the filed claim, but acknowledge that extenuating circumstances may apply. I love that Liberty offers emergency services as well, which can be very helpful or even crucial when a pipe bursts or the heating system fails in the winter months. These are some major benefits that most companies don’t offer to the same extent as LHG or don’t offer at all. When researching, I found that customers have repeatedly praised LHG for their fast and easy claims process, quick payouts, and quality of customer service representatives.

    One of two companies on my list available in all 50 states, Liberty Home Guard proves their ability to operate in a wide range of locations and continue to make payouts to their customers. They also offer a 24/7 live chat feature on their website, which is incredibly helpful. I was able to easily find the customer service phone number and email from the home page of their website as well, so contacting an agent any time of day or night is easy.

    I love that American Home Shield (AHS) offers limits up to $5,000 for home systems and $4,000 for appliances, depending on the plan you choose. These limits are the second highest (to Elite Home Warranty) in New Hampshire and much higher than those of most of their competitors that typically offer between $2,000 and $3,000 for home systems and appliances. I also love that American creates an exceptionally user-friendly customer experience through their website. Their quote calculator provides the date that coverage will start if a contract were signed that day, taking transparency to the next level. Deciding on a home warranty provider is already a stressful process, and engaging with such a user-friendly website is a huge plus. 

    I’m uncomfortable with the fact that American Home Shield has received thousands of negative reviews across reputable review sites like Yelp, the Better Business Bureau (BBB), and Trustpilot. Most report issues with slow responses to claims, some shady business around the company honoring promised payouts, and slow responses to emergencies. The low rating averages from numerous negative reviews left across Yelp, BBB, and Trustpilot give me pause about working with American Home Shield. I’m comforted by the fact that American has a B rating with and is accredited by the BBB. 

    American Home Shield’s coverage is costlier than that of some other companies on my list. I’d recommend their most comprehensive plan, however, which is pricier than comparable plans from competitors. Even so, few can compete with American’s high coverage limits of up to $5,000 for home systems and $4,000 for appliances. Again, some other companies on my list, like Liberty Home Guard and Select Home Warranty, offer coverage limits between $2,000 and $3,000, making this high coverage limit a huge benefit if your appliances or systems are more expensive.

    I enjoyed my secret shopping experience with American Home Shield, as their website and quoting processes were more user-friendly than those of most other companies I researched. That said, I’d only purchase the ShieldPlatinum plan because the other two plans they offer are not as comprehensive as some affordable options from other companies that provide similar coverage. If you’re a homeowner willing to pay a higher monthly premium in exchange for higher coverage limits and you don’t need many or unique add-ons, the ShieldPlatinum plan may be the plan for you.

    AHS offers three tiered plans: ShieldSilver, covering 14 major systems, including heating and cooling systems and plumbing systems; ShieldGold, covering ShieldSilver plus nine appliances, including kitchen and laundry appliances; and ShieldPlatinum, AHS’s most comprehensive plan, including roof leak protection, a free HVAC tune-up, and protection for code violations, permits, and modifications. ShieldPlatinum is impressive, as it covers things typically excluded from home warranty contracts, such as protection for code violations. Another major benefit of the ShieldPlatinum plan is its free annual HVAC tune-up, as regular maintenance can help prevent a breakdown.

    American also offers ShieldAssurance with its ShieldPlatinum plan, promising protection for older systems and appliances, undetectable preexisting conditions, items without maintenance records, and more.  Through ShieldAssurance, American also promises to cover repairs if a system or appliance was improperly installed or has been previously repaired. This is not standard practice for home warranty providers, making ShieldAssurance another major benefit to partnering with American Home Shield. 

    American Home Shield offers two service fee options —$100 and $125. While these are higher than other companies on my list, I appreciate that they present more than one option, allowing customers further customization of their monthly premiums. I would personally opt for the higher service fee to keep my monthly premium lower with this company.

    I like American’s electronics protection plan add-on, which includes coverage for an unlimited number of new and used electronic devices. The add-on coverage excluded devices purchased second-hand or sold by a company “as is,” including laptops, headphones, video game consoles, smart home products, and home theaters. As someone who uses their laptop for work, this level of protection is incredibly comforting. Be sure to read through the terms of this add-on so you aren’t surprised by an uncovered breakdown.

    I found American Home Shield to be more transparent with their exclusions during my secret shopping than any other company.

    American Home Shield is clearly not the most affordable home warranty company on the market in New Hampshire. That said, their most comprehensive plan, ShieldPlatinum, is not much more expensive on average than comparable plans from competitors. While American offers less expensive plans with lower levels of coverage, I don’t recommend these plans because they offer less coverage than similar plans from competitors such as AFC Home Warranty.

    If you prioritize affordability in the form of a low monthly premium, American Home Shield likely won’t be your top choice. However, if you want a home warranty plan with affordable add-ons, such as electronics protection, or you have more expensive home systems and appliances, I recommend American for their high coverage limits, even if the coverage comes with a slightly higher monthly premium.

    I gave American Home Shield a score of 8.4 for customer experience because they offer a 30-day service guarantee, which is shorter than some of their competitors, and provide many points of contact directly from their website. The company has a 30-day waiting period for coverage to begin, which is standard for the industry. I like that American’s website has all forms of communication listed clearly, making it quick and easy to use a method that suits your needs best.

    That said, American Home Shield has a troubling number of negative reviews across multiple reputable review websites, including Yelp, Google, Trustpilot, and the BBB. Many of these negative reviews discuss miscommunication with representatives, including representatives failing to respond to communication attempts and reports that agents never received customer messages. This is something that concerned me during my research, as being able to communicate with your home warranty company is crucial.

    American Home Shield has a less-than-stellar company reputation. While a score of 7.7 is low for this category, it’s still well above our average reputation score for home warranty companies. American has a B grade from the BBB and a rating of 4.7 on Google, but lower scores on Trustpilot (2.1) and Yelp (1.1). 

    In my research, I found that most negative reviews focus on delays in contractor appointments, ineffective contractors being sent, and lack of coverage for items the customer expected to be covered. Personally, I focus more on complaints reporting service delays, as I’ve found that often complaints surrounding surprise expenses are due to a lack of understanding of the service contract — so I recommend reading through American’s contract thoroughly before signing.  Alternatively, most positive reviews praise the company for its excellent coverage and limits. 

    It’s reassuring to me that the company has replied to nearly all its negative reviews — many within 24 hours of the complaint being posted. This gives me confidence that American is open to feedback and makes solving customer issues a priority.

    A huge benefit of working with Select Home Warranty (SHW) is that all their plans come with limited roof protection. Select’s choice to offer this benefit makes them stand out from their competitors, who typically provide roof protection only as an add-on or with pricier plans. Select Home Warranty offers lower monthly rates than most, meaning you aren’t paying excessive amounts for even their most comprehensive plan. By offering affordable plans, an easy quote and customer service process, and high-quality coverage options, Select Home Warranty is my top pick for the best value home warranty company providing service in New Hampshire. 

    I wish that Select offered more add-ons — they currently have only nine. While their add-ons are standard and affordable, other companies on this list, such as Liberty Home Guard, provide affordable coverage with a much greater variety of add-ons. I also dislike that Select doesn’t provide coverage for unknown preexisting conditions. You may be surprised to find a breakdown uncovered if a technician determines it’s due to a preexisting condition. To protect yourself from this potential frustration, I suggest having your household thoroughly inspected before signing a contract with Select Home Warranty.

    Select Home Warranty, offering three plans and some great discount options, stands out as an affordable provider for budget-conscious New Hampshire homeowners. Select provides a lower coverage cap of $3,000 for HVAC systems than their competitors (some offering up to $10,000). Because an HVAC breakdown could be a huge financial burden for your family, I recommend researching your current systems’ values along with common breakdowns and their repair costs before partnering with Select Home Warranty. 

    If I decided to work with SHW to protect my home appliances and systems, I would opt for their most comprehensive plan, the Platinum Care Plan. This plan costs only $3 more than their other two plans and provides much more comprehensive coverage. 

    Select Home Warranty is a great choice for its overall value, affordable monthly premiums, and low-cost service fee options. However, if your home has higher-end appliances or you have specific needs for add-on coverage, I advise considering working with other companies like Liberty Home Guard, offering more comprehensive coverage and extensive add-ons, or Elite Home Warranty, offering incredibly high coverage limits.

    Select Home Warranty offers three plans: an appliances only plan, a systems only plan, and a comprehensive plan covering both appliances and systems. As with other companies on my list, Select’s single-care plans, Gold Care and Bronze Care, don’t cover much on their own. Based on the quotes I got at the time of writing, the Platinum Care plan is only about $3 more than the single coverage plans, adding substantial coverage for an affordable price and making this the SHW plan I would choose. When I was secret shopping, Select offered me a $150 coupon, along with two months of free coverage if I paid for coverage annually, which is an excellent deal if you’re able to pay up front.

Some companies offer cheaper plans, but for a few more dollars a month you can have much more comprehensive coverage with Select. When calling to speak with a customer service representative to inquire about service fees, I was told that typically their service fees are $100 but I was offered a discounted service fee of $75. This is a great deal, as other companies, like American Home Shield, require service fees between $100 and $125. Be sure to call Select customer service representatives to secure the best discounts on your coverage. 

    Select Home Warranty has an above-average customer experience score for home warranty companies (average score is 6.7). The process of getting a quote was quick and their quote calculator tool was easy to use. Select also provides easy-to-follow breakdowns of every plan, educational content to help you research and make decisions, and a customer service phone number on every page of their website for quick help if needed. Their website is uncluttered, clearly labeled, and much easier to navigate than some of their competitors. I was not pressured with excessive phone calls, texts, and email follow-ups from Select Home Warranty, giving me confidence they respect customers’ space in decision-making.  

    Select Home Warranty has a B rating from the BBB and mixed reviews across multiple reputable review websites. When reading through the comments, I found that most positive reviews praise customer representatives for being helpful during the quote process, and some highlighted a fast and painless claims process. That said, negative reviews discuss complaints that would concern me when thinking about working with Select, including low reimbursement rates, problems surrounding claim fulfillment, ignored communication related to cancellation of plans, and inept technicians. One review began as a 5-star rating and later changed to 1 star due to the customer’s negative experience with claim fulfillment. I advise reading through SHW’s consistently mixed reviews if you’re drawn to the company for its affordability but concerned by its reputation.

    As with  other companies on my list, the claims process with Select Home Warranty is straightforward — you can either submit a claim online or over the phone. Select will then schedule a technician to visit your home and assess the appliance or system. Overall, I rated Select 7.6 because they have an average response time of around 48 hours for non-emergency claims, compared to Liberty Home Guard which promises a 12-hour response time, and a standard number of ways to open a claim.

Overall, the company has a positive customer satisfaction rating throughout the country, which assures homeowners they can trust Select to take care of them and honor their payout promises in any location throughout the nation.

    I love that Elite Home Warranty (EHW) offers incredible coverage limits — up to $6,000 for appliances and $10,000 for systems depending on your chosen level of coverage. Elite also stands out for their online review ratings ranging from 4.5 to 5 stars across multiple reputable platforms, including Yelp, Google, the BBB, and Trustpilot. It’s clear that Elite has remarkable customer satisfaction when comparing their review scores to those of competitors, who average closer to 2-to 3-star review ratings. I also love that Elite Home Warranty offers a claims concierge, serving as a single point of contact from start to finish during the claims process, and a 90-day workmanship guarantee, which is longer than that of most other home warranty companies.

    EHW offers three plans and a long list of affordable add-ons. It’s an excellent option for homeowners — especially those with luxury appliances — who want reasonable monthly premiums with great coverage and incredible coverage limits. I also love that Elite Home Warranty is accredited by and has an A+ rating with the BBB.

     Elite has a few unique characteristics besides high coverage limits. While their standard service fee option is $75, the company also offers the option for customers to pick their own service fee based on the amount of their monthly premium. In addition, the company offers a $0 service call fee for up to five claims per 12 month term for an additional cost, allowing further customization of your plan.

     Elite’s website also allows users to customize their webpage view with an accessibility button in the bottom left of the screen, including presets for accessibility adjustments, an ADHD-friendly profile and seizure safe profile among them. I have not seen this on any other home warranty company website, and it’s an incredible tool that others might consider adding. 

    I don’t like that EHW doesn’t offer standard emergency services, especially since many industry providers consider it normal practice. This could be a deal-breaker for New Hampshire homeowners concerned with issues like heating system breakdowns during the snowy season. Elite states in its service contract “EHW will determine if a service constitutes an emergency and will make reasonable efforts to expedite emergency service.” It’s important to note that Elite does require higher service fees of $150 for after-hours and weekend service. Carefully consider your potential need and concern for emergency services before choosing to partner with this provider for your home’s protection. 

    I also found that Elite doesn’t allow customers to pay for service monthly but rather requires annual payment up front. It’s standard industry practice to offer monthly payment — annual-only payment could be prohibitive for families. Offering monthly payment seems like a no-brainer for companies wanting to stay competitive in the home warranty industry. 

    Elite Home Warranty has some of the best coverage limits in the industry, providing system payouts as high as $10,000 and appliance payouts as high as $6,000 in New Hampshire. Compared to the $2,000 to $3,000 industry-standard cap offering, Elite stands out to me as one of the best, if not the best, in the industry for coverage limits. If your home has high-end or luxury appliances, and you prioritize high coverage limits to support the cost of repairs or replacements, I highly recommend taking advantage of Elite’s above-industry-average coverage limits. 

    If you value emergency service coverage, though, I don’t recommend partnering with Elite Home Warranty, as they don’t promise it. While the company offers 24/7 customer service, you can’t easily get emergency services after hours or on the weekends. As I said before, this could be a major deal-breaker for New Hampshire homeowners, especially since the state experiences such heavy snowfall. In the future I would love to see EHW expand their coverage to include emergency services.

    Elite Home Warranty offers three plans, including Elite Systems, Elite Appliances, and  Elite Complete — my personal favorite, as it’s the most comprehensive and costs only $14 more than their cheapest plan. This is an industry-standard plan setup, but Elite stands out for their unmatched coverage limits, as they far surpass the average limits for the industry of around $2,000 to $3,000. Elite Home Warranty offers caps up to $6,000 for appliances and $10,000 for systems in New Hampshire, an outstanding limit I have not seen any other home warranty provider match. 

    While secret shopping, I was offered a 30-day free trial and $150 off the annual cost if I called to speak with a representative to schedule coverage. I advise calling Elite to secure the lowest price for your home warranty coverage with the company.

While this may not be a deal-breaker for you, it’s important to note that these fees aren’t standard or even common practice among many other providers.

    Elite Home Warranty offers three plans within industry-standard pricing. I determined that Elite’s add-ons cost an average of $15 to $20 a month each. While this seems expensive, it’s standard across the market for the add-ons they offer, making them an affordable option for added protection. I love the added security their free-month offer gives, which even comes with a discounted service fee of $70 and a cancellation period. This is the only company I have seen give out this offer, and it provides near risk-free space to determine if Elite will be the best fit for you and your home needs. Elite Home Warranty also offers a 60-day money-back guarantee, giving your further comfort in case working with the company is not the right fit for you and your home. 

    My initial secret shopping experiences with Elite were slightly frustrating. Their website is difficult to navigate, and their reps contacted me multiple times a day to confirm my coverage. It was also difficult to find add-on pricing, as that information is hidden in their sample policy contract a customer service representative emailed me. Thankfully, most other providers clearly disclose add-on prices and include them in their quote calculator. I’ve found experiences with Elite are more positive when calling and speaking with a representative, so that’s my recommendation. However, Elite does make it easy to opt out of receiving communication through a button on the home page of their website — a rare but welcome feature.

    While Elite’s customer experience score is lower because the company uses many points of contact during the quote process, the company maintains positive reviews online across multiple reputable review platforms, including Yelp, Trustpilot, BBB, and Google. Positive reviews praise lower service fees and positive experiences with customer service representatives, both before and after their issues were resolved. They also note that working with Elite was a better experience than working with other home warranty providers.

    Elite Home Warranty has earned a higher company reputation than other providers. That said, it’s important to note that while the reviews produce a higher rating, there are significantly fewer reviews for Elite than other companies. Despite this, because the BBB has rated Elite Home Warranty A+, which isn’t based on customer reviews, I have confidence in the company’s service and follow-through with their customers. 

    Some of the positive reviews highlight a seamless claims process and service follow-up while others praise the attention received from customer service representatives throughout the process to ensure repairs are complete to the homeowner’s satisfaction. Some even praise the company for not pressuring them during the shopping stage. On the other hand, negative reviews share that communication during the sales process felt aggressive. That said, because Elite has a BBB rating of A+ and BBB accreditation, the few negative reviews don’t affect my opinion of the company. Elite routinely responds to negative comments left on multiple platforms, sharing details of the situation and discussing the resolution. This is not a standard practice among home warranty companies, and makes me confident that Elite Home Warranty values customer input and wants to work to resolve negative experiences.

    Elite Home Warranty earned a score of 6.8, which is below average compared to other providers on my list. While the company offers several ways and constant availability for customers to file a claim, they don’t provide emergency services. Even though the company says they’ll assess emergency situations on a case-by-case basis and allow for these services with a higher fee, this could leave you without a heating system during the snowy season in New Hampshire, or paying out of pocket to stop a pipe from leaking on the weekend. Clearly, this is less than ideal and certainly a deal-breaker for many homeowners. That said, Elite has an industry-standard response time for filed claims, promising a response between 24 and 48 hours. 

    Elite Home Warranty is available in 47 states, including New Hampshire. The company’s ability to operate nearly nationwide is a great measure of trust in the company’s legitimacy and reputation, proving they can operate across almost the entire country while sustainably making industry standard-breaking payouts to homeowners.

    I love AFC Home Warranty’s membership benefits, which include free and discounted rates on home security, medical benefits, credit monitoring, insurance, and more. In my research, I haven’t seen these benefits offered by other home warranty companies, so it’s certainly something to take note of. I also love that most reviews posted for AFC across multiple reputable websites are positive, despite the fact that they’ve received fewer online reviews than their competitors. Like Liberty Home Guard, AFC Home Warranty also offers some unique add-ons to supplement their comprehensive plans to meet the specific needs of homeowners. 

    I don’t like that AFC Home Warranty offers lower payouts than their competitors, with some items only receiving $150 to $1,000. AFC advertises that some of their plans include coverage up to $3,000, however. Be sure to read through their sample policy to find the coverage cap for appliances and systems you want covered to ensure you are not caught off guard with insufficient coverage for pricier appliances in your home. 

    I also don’t like that AFC, like Elite Home Warranty, doesn’t offer emergency services. As I mentioned before, many home warranty companies consider providing 24/7/365 service, including after-hours, weekends, and emergency services, a standard practice. AFC’s lack of emergency service could be a major deal-breaker for New Hampshire homeowners. 

    My overall experience with AFC Home Warranty was positive. I love that its website is user-friendly, which allows me to quickly research customizable plans with multiple service fee options and easily explore the unique membership benefits I haven’t seen offered by other companies. When looking for home warranty coverage, this company would be one of my top choices because I greatly value its high customer ratings and reviews, B rating from the BBB, and plans that are customizable down to the service fee.

    Something to note is AFC Home Warranty’s lower coverage cap, especially if you own high-end  appliances. While AFC offers four different levels of coverage, their most comprehensive option is not available in all states, like New Jersey. Despite that, the company has better customer reviews, even for lower coverage plans than competitors, keeping it on my list. My favorite plan offered by AFC is their Diamond Plan because of its extended coverage including electronics, exterior water, and exterior sewer lines. 

    AFC Home Warranty offers four tiered plans in New Hampshire, from a simple appliances plan covering nine major appliances, all the way to their most comprehensive plan which covers appliances and systems along with extras that are uncommon in the industry. Their most basic plan, the Silver Plan, covers nine most frequently used appliances. The Gold plan covers 15 appliances and systems, including electrical systems, plumbing, and heating systems. AFC’s Platinum Plan covers 18 appliances and systems, including major home systems and appliances, plus comforts like a built-in microwave and refrigerator ice maker. Their Diamond Plan, my top recommendation from this company and an exceptional home warranty plan, covers everything included with the Platinum Plan but adds coverage for electronics, exterior water, and exterior sewer lines. 

    AFC Home Warranty offers three service fee options: $75, $100, and $125. I prefer to keep a lower monthly premium and opt for a higher service fee, so I chose $125 with AFC. I was offered a $100 coupon for signing up for a one-year contract, which is an excellent way to save on your home warranty policy.  Make sure to get on the phone with an AFC representative to secure the highest savings when signing up for a home warranty plan. You’ll often land better discounts over the phone than solely shopping online for coverage.

    When reading through AFC’s sample contract, I found that AFC Home Warranty doesn’t cover items that homeowners haven’t properly maintained, reserves the right to determine breakdowns to be from improper maintenance, and requires a prior annual maintenance log from a licensed technician showing you’ve followed up with recommended past repairs. The sample contract also states that you forfeit your HVAC coverage if you do not keep up with the annual maintenance log. While this is not an unheard of policy, many homeowners would find it annoying to have to provide maintenance records for some filed claims. I advise creating a filing system to keep track of all records related to your property if you decide to work with AFC Home Warranty.

    AFC Home Warranty offers four plan levels, all of which offer affordable and comprehensive coverage for their price points. As with American Home Shield, AFC’s coverage structure  provides comprehensive coverage for both appliances and systems at varying levels. This allows customers with diverse budgets the ability to have comprehensive coverage of their home at a more affordable price than they might find from tiered plans, which only offer comprehensive coverage for both systems and appliances  in their most expensive plans. These affordable plans might be perfect if you aren’t in need of extensive coverage and don’t have a high budget for home warranty coverage but still want peace of mind that your main systems and appliances are covered in the event of a breakdown. 

    Also like other companies on this list, AFC offers multiple service fee options: $75, $100, and $125. This allows you to customize your monthly premium, either by lowering your premium with a higher service fee, or raising your premium with a lower service fee. While AFC offers a small list of add-ons, they are incredibly affordable and cover common household appliances and systems.

    AFC Home Warranty has the highest customer experience score of any company on my list, and my experience as a secret shopper with the company reflects that. Not only was AFC’s webpage the easiest to use of any company I researched, I could also easily see how add-ons affected my monthly premium. Their website is well organized, easy to navigate, and is interactive in positive and helpful ways.

    I appreciate that AFC offers 24/7/365 customer service. Reviews across multiple reputable platforms also highlight their own positive experiences with customer service, including the professionalism of AFC’s in-house service repair team — a unique feature for home warranty providers. These are some incredibly important aspects of working with a home warranty company that could easily make or break your experience.

    Despite being accredited by the BBB, AFC Home Warranty has fewer total reviews across reputable review websites than most of their competitors. That said, AFC regularly responds  to both positive and negative reviews. This is a practice I greatly appreciate because it demonstrates a dedication to feedback, resolution, and improvement.

    The company has a low rating from Yelp reviews, most citing a lack of coverage for breakdowns the customer expected to be covered. This is a common complaint among home warranty customers, and since every company I’ve researched has been given at least one review discussing this issue, I think some of these complaints could be a lack of understanding on the customers’ end before they signed a contract. After reading through the comments, I am not overly concerned by the low Yelp rating. Alternatively, positive reviews across all providers praise quick turnaround times for contractor assignment, polite customer service, and high claim reimbursement percentages.

    When secret shopping, I reached out to a customer service representative to request a quote and found the company’s response time to be average, typically taking them 24 to 48 hours to respond with a quote. This is higher than industry standard, especially compared to Liberty Home Guard’s promise to respond within 12 hours. AFC’s contract also notes that it may take more than 48 hours to accept claim requests beyond the 48 hour claims processing time, making a total potential waiting period four days for a technician to schedule an appointment with you. Because of these longer response times, AFC scored significantly lower in this category than its competitors. AFC Home Warranty states on their website in the systems coverage document that they are “not an Emergency Service and will be closed on Nationally Recognized Holidays therefore resulting in delayed Service Request Assignments.”

    New Hampshire Home Warranty Regulations

    New Hampshire, under statute 415-C, requires that all extended warranty agreements must be offered by a licensed insurance agent. Further regulations and bonding requirements are upheld by the New Hampshire Insurance Department, as stated by the New Hampshire Office of the Attorney General. Home warranty contracts in New Hampshire can operate in two ways: as a “contract of insurance” and “non-insurance”. As a contract of insurance, the company takes money from consumers and creates a pool, then uses that pool of money to make payouts, in the case of a home warranty company. A non-insurance contract means that no pool of money is created and used. This is a more risky type of contract for consumers as the primary risks associated are the issuing company will go out of business or be unable to make payouts. For this reason, issuing companies offering contracts that do not qualify as “insurance” must provide a $50,000 bond with the New Hampshire Insurance Department before any service contracts are offered to consumers.

    New Hampshire home warranty contracts were previously regulated under statute RSA 407-A. Recently, RSA 415-C has replaced RSA 407-A. That said, I advise considering all factors, including the cost of the item and its repairs or replacement, the price of the add-on, and the protection that a manufacturer’s warranty could provide vs a home warranty. For example, I would consider adding electronics protection to my coverage to protect my work laptop, as it’s  not covered by a manufacturer’s warranty or insurance plan. 
    • Customize your service fee: Nearly all of the companies on my list will allow you a choice of service fees, ranging from $65 to $125. To pay a lower monthly premium, opt for higher service fee choices.
