Coverage Exclusions with OneGuard Home Warranties
Home warranty plans don’t always cover every single part of an appliance or system. Here are a few examples of what is and isn’t covered by OneGuard Home Warranties. For a complete overview, read the details on each item on OneGuard’s website.
There are several components in major kitchen appliances excluded from coverage. These include detachable accessories, shelves, hinges, light bulbs and all other parts that don’t affect the appliance’s primary operation.
Carpet Cleaning Service
OneGuard Home Warranties provides one carpet cleaning service per term in up to three rooms or not more than 600 square feet. What’s excluded from coverage is permanent stain removal, pet urine and/or feces stains, pre-existing carpet damage and any other tough stains that may require enzyme treatments.
Washer and Dryer
All components that do not affect the main operation of a washer and dryer will not be covered.
Other than component-based exclusions, there are several general exclusion standards. For example, OneGuard Home Warranties does not cover systems and appliances under a manufacturer’s warranty or a homeowner’s insurance policy, nor do they cover systems classified as commercial. A more comprehensive list of exclusions should be available in your contract under the “Limitations of Liability” section.
Cost of OneGuard Home Warranties
Plans prices from OneGuard Home Warranties vary by state and the amount of coverage. Including add-ons to your plan will increase the cost, as well. Here’s a summary of starting monthly prices.
|Arizona||$29 per month||$38 per month||$50 per month|
|Texas||$30 per month or as low as $324 per year||$44 per month||$56 per month|
|Nevada||$25-$27 per month or $300 per year||$34-$37 per month or $420 per year||$50-$57 per month or $660 per year|
These plans are very reasonably priced, especially since they include home care services, too. HomeGuard will cost under $60 a month for a total of 33 systems, appliances and services covered. You can save money by paying up front for the whole year.
Add-ons are priced on a per item basis, and the cost varies slightly by state. We recommend calling OneGuard for accurate pricing. As an example, here is a general breakdown of add-on costs for Nevada homeowners.
|Add-on||Price per month||Price per year|
|Undetectable pre-existing conditions||$7||$84|
|Built-in pool/spa (chlorine)||$18||$216|
|Built-in pool/spa (salt water)||$33||$396|
|Additional spa/pool pump (per unit)||$8||$96|
|Built-in kitchen refrigerator upgrade||$15||$180|
|Additional refrigeration units (per unit)||$5||$60|
|Sprinkler system and timer||$5||$60|
|Extended mainline plumbing||$8||$96|
|HVAC equipment incompatibility protection||$10||$120|
As you can see, the prices for add-ons range from $5 to $33 a month, and there are no discounts available if you pay for the whole year up front.
OneGuard Home Warranties allows you to purchase an annual plan, or pay in monthly installments, but note that you will be charged a $2 administrative fee per month. Also, those who opt for a monthly plan will have to make the first and last payment in advance.
OneGuard Home Warranties also charges a $69 service fee each time a contractor visits your home. This is slightly lower than the industry average of $75 per call. The service fee must be paid at the time a service request is scheduled. You are obligated to pay the service fee even if:
- The service request is cancelled while the contractor is on their way to the house.
- Required access isn’t provided to perform the necessary repairs.
- The contractor’s diagnosis results in coverage denial.
- OneGuard Home Warranties approves your request for a second opinion, and the resulting outcome is the same as the first opinion.
All the repairs made by OneGuard’s contractors are guaranteed for 30 days. That means if the system or appliance fails again within 30 days, you will not be charged a service fee.
Maximum Coverage Cap with OneGuard Home Warranties
Just like other home warranty companies, OneGuard has annual limits to what it will spend for the repair and replacement of a specific system, appliance or service. If the repair cost exceeds the cap for that year, you will have to pay the difference out of pocket.
Here’s a rough overview of OneGuard Home Warranties’ coverage cap.
|Home System or Appliance||Coverage Cap|
|Kitchen appliances||$2,500 each|
|Permits and upgrades||$250|
|Additional freestanding refrigeration unit||$1,000|

|Additional built-in kitchen refrigeration unit||$5,000|
|Additional freestanding kitchen refrigerator||$2,500|
|Extended mainline plumbing||$1,000|
|Water softener and reverse osmosis filtration system||$500|

OneGuard Home Warranties is accredited by the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and holds an A+ rating, which is the highest grade a company can earn. They have also received an impressive 4 out of 5 star rating based on more than 300 customer reviews.
OneGuard has no shortage of positive testimonials from customers who rave about the company’s excellent service, quick responses to enquiries and friendly customer representatives. Some customers mentioned that OneGuard Home Warranties let them continue working with the same service contractor whose work they previously liked. The negative reviews are far and few between and mainly seem to stem from not being aware of the exclusions.
Here are some customer reviews we found on BBB:
“We purchased OneGuard at the end of March 2020. Best thing we’ve ever done. Customer service agent was informative, clear spoken and very helpful with an answer to all our questions. Within a month, our A/C unit stopped on a weekend. OneGuard sent out a terrific technician, and within a couple days … our home is cool again. Thank you OneGuard … we’ll recommend you to all our family and friends! We’ll never be without a warranty again!”– C. David E, May 2020
“Excellent service! The customer service agent was a pleasure to work with. Answered all my questions and responded to calls quickly. I’m all set up with my home warranty now and pleased with service so far.”– David S., January 22, 2020
“The agent at OneGuard was so friendly and helpful to resolve my issue. We have had a home warranty with OneGuard for almost 10 years, and they are so prompt at issuing the request and a service company calls me within four hours to schedule but it’s usually within one hour. I highly recommend this company.”– Holly W., January 2020
Our Assessment of OneGuard Home Warranties
OneGuard Home Warranties is one of the oldest home warranty companies out there. Not only does the company have a whopping four decades of experience in this industry, but the customer service has very positive reviews.
While researching plans from OneGuard Home Warranties, we were impressed by the eclectic selection of home maintenance services. We believe these services can definitely help homeowners save money in the long run and maintain the well-being of their home.
From our experience, the few home warranty companies that do provide home maintenance services usually stick to pest control or rekey. OneGuard Home Warranties provides carpet cleaning, window cleaning, sprinkler repair, weed kill treatment, landscaping and numerous other services.
Plans from OneGuard Home Warranties are very reasonably priced. They are actually lower than the industry average. Especially since every package is jam-packed with coverage and services, we believe these plans are worth every penny. Their service fee of $69 is also lower than the industry average, which ranges from $75 to $100.
The company’s maximum limits range from $250 to $2,500, which we consider to be quite generous. If you purchase the refrigerator upgrade, you can expand the coverage limit to $5,000, which is enough to purchase a top-of-the-line refrigerator.
OneGuard Home Warranties also promises to connect you with a contractor within four business hours, which is quite fast considering most home warranty companies take 24 to 48 hours to process a service request.
All that said, sadly OneGuard Home Warranties isn’t available to the majority of homeowners, as the company only serves Arizona, Texas and Nevada.
Here’s a summary of our review of OneGuard Home Warranties:
|Extensive coverage options||Only available in Arizona, Texas and Nevada|

|Affordable monthly premiums|
|Low service fee ($69)|
|Covers items with undetectable pre-existing conditions|

Home Warranty Rating Methodology
To help you find the best home warranty, our reviews team researched numerous home warranty companies, analyzing their coverage plans, pricing and customer service, among other factors:
- Coverage: Home warranty companies that provide extensive coverage and protect important systems and appliances, including your air conditioning, refrigerator and heating, scored higher than companies with minimal coverage.
- Plan variety: A provider with more coverage plans allows for more flexibility among customers. In general, most home warranty companies provide an appliances-only plan, systems-only plan and combination plan.
- Pricing: We scored providers based on their monthly plan prices and service call fees compared to the industry average pricing. Companies with more affordable coverage received more points than companies with more expensive plans.
- State availability: Where you live will determine what companies are available in your area. Home warranty companies that covered more states received more points than companies with a limited state availability.
- Trustworthiness: There are some home warranty companies that are scams and don’t follow through on their service agreements. We rated companies based on their years of experience, ratings on the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and customer reviews.
To keep our data current, our team regularly updates the data points for each company to ensure their coverage offerings, pricing and availability are accurate.
