Hanging poster board behind dark shelving is an easy, inexpensive way to brighten the space.

Here, we’ve used classic white poster board, but you can choose any color or pattern to suit your decor. And, since it’s easily removable, you can change the background as often as you like.

  1. Clear the shelves so you have room to work.
  2. If the shelves are adjustable, you can begin sliding full sheets of poster board behind them. Be sure that the tape or adhesive you use to secure them won’t damage the walls.
  3. Work from the bottom up, overlapping each new piece over the previous one and hide the horizontal seams behind the shelves.
  4. Cut pieces to exactly the dimensions of the top shelf in order to hide the seam.
