Chalk Paint Decorative Finish

Adding plaster of paris to latex paint creates a homemade chalk paint that’s harder and easier to sand to give a unique, antique look to old furniture.

Apply two coats of the chalk paint to the furniture. After the paint has dried, sand through the finish in random spots to expose the old finish underneath.

Crackle Decorative Paint Finish

Another unusual antique finish can be achieved by painting the furniture black.

After the paint has dried, brush on a thick coat of water based wood glue, followed by a coat of latex paint while the glue is still tacky.

As the glue dries, the finish cracks, resulting in an alligatored, antique look.
