People love the look of a wood floor, and today there are more ways than ever to get it. Knowing the differences between the three main options will help you make the right choice.

Solid wood flooring is made from solid wood boards with a tongue-and-groove joint cut in either edge. They can be unfinished or finished and are nailed in place.

Engineered wood flooring is also available as unfinished or finished and is composed of layers of wood glued together. It also uses tongue-and-groove joints, but isn’t as thick as solid wood and can be glued or nailed in place.

Laminate flooring is made from plastic laminate with a pattern to simulate wood grain. These pieces lock together without nails or glue over a foam pad in a floating installation.
