What to Know About Operating a Standby Generator

We’re in the heart of hurricane season where I live on the coast and many of you will be staring down winter storms in the months ahead, so the folks at Generac remind us that now is the time to think about adding a standby power source. An automatic standby generator system monitors incoming voltage from the utility line and when that power source is interrupted, the generator goes to work. An automatic transfer switch safely disconnects the utility line and simultaneously connects a new power line from the generator, restoring power to your home within seconds. When the utility power is restored, the generator returns to standby mode. And, because these systems are fueled by your home’s natural gas or propane supply, you don’t even have to worry about pouring gasoline.
