Decora Light Switch from Leviton
Leviton’s Decora Antimicrobial Quiet Rocker Light Switch inhibits 99 percent of bacterial growth when cleaned regularly.

When was the last time you cleaned your light switches? If you can’t remember, now might be the time to replace them with Leviton’s latest light switches, which have technology that prevents the spread of germs.

The Dangers of High-Touch Areas

Now more than ever, people are concerned about spreading germs. Even if you aren’t sick, germs on your hands can still be transmitted through touch, so it’s important to regularly clean the surfaces we touch the most often.

That includes light switches, which bacteria can survive on for months. In fact, such high-touch surfaces can become a continuous source of transmission if not regularly disinfected, according to a study from the U.S. National Institutes of Health.

How Leviton’s Light Switch Prevents the Spread of Germs

The folks at Leviton have developed a light switch to put your mind at ease between regular household disinfecting. The Decora Antimicrobial AC Quiet Rocker Light Switch inhibits 99 percent of bacterial growth when cleaned regularly.

The secret to the switch’s disinfecting powers is its antimicrobial additive. The switches are manufactured with silver ions that help prevent the growth of harmful bacteria, mold, mildew and fungi.

Lab tests have shown the antimicrobial additive remains intact when subjected to 15,000 cleaning cycles — the equivalent of 10 years — each with a sponge saturated with ammonia, isopropyl alcohol, hydrogen peroxide or bleach.

Three is Better Than One

The Decora Antimicrobial AC Quiet Rocker isn’t just health-conscious; it’s also versatile.

In fact, it replaces any standard three-way switch and you can pair it with the Decora antimicrobial wall plate, sold separately.

The switch puts out 15 amps of power at 120 volts and 277 volts.
