Tips for Using Plastic to Make Your Home More Energy Efficient

There are a number of ways that building materials made from plastic products can make your home more energy efficient and save money on your heating and cooling bills, including:

  • Caulk cracks or gaps on the outside of your home using caulking or expandable foam.
  • Apply foam weather stripping to windowsills and around doors to reduce air infiltration.
  • Add heat blocking plastic window film to windows.
  • Replace older windows with insulated glass windows that have energy efficient vinyl frames.

  1. Our front door has been painted 3 times and the mildew keeps coming back. We have preped with bleach and kiltz, and have added a mildew resistant to the paint, but it still mildews. The door is metal and has a porch on it that is 5 ft. in depth. Any ideas what we can do?
