Applying sealer to a paver driveway.

Sealing a paver patio, driveway, or walk enhances the color and character of each paver.

After the pavers have been laid and any excess sand removed, wash the surface with clean water. When the pavers are completely dry, apply a masonry sealer to the surface using a pump-up garden sprayer.

A paver patio, drive, or walkway is a great way to add character to an outdoor space. But you can take it a step further by adding a sealer.

Once the surface is complete, remove the excess sand, and wash it carefully with clean water. Then, be sure it’s completely dry before applying a masonry sealer with a pump-up garden sprayer.

Sealers protect the surface from stains, but a high gloss sealer will enhance the color and character of each paver, giving the entire surface a whole new look.

  1. I am dying to experience the completed look of my pavers but unfortunately I cannot get the company that installed them to finish the job. Is there a service that I can pay to do this work? I would love to see them after the sealant is applied.

  2. How often do you have to seal a paver driveway in Florida? Do you have to buy a particular gloss or brand to not be slippery when wet?
    Thank you

    • Hi, Eileen,
If weeds have taken root between the pavers, it’s time to reseal.
You want the pavers to maintain their sheen, so once they start to fade, that’s also an indicator to reseal.
      Good luck!

  3. Our pavers get stained from our well water sprinkler system. I have tried scrubbing them to remove much of the stain as possible. We have power washed but try to be careful with removal of the sand. We need to resand but what is good to clean them and then seal them? We have had them for about 10 years. Thanks for your assistance.

    • It sure does, Sheldon!
But remember: sealer doesn’t last forever. It needs to be reapplied every few years.
      Thanks for your question.

  4. I have a paver patio needs sand and possibly a sealer (company who installed said no sealer). Anyone in Monroe, Michigan who you would recommend

    • Hi, Rosemary,
We don’t offer information on home builders, repairers and suppliers, as this varies by location, but we encourage checking your local phone listings for this information.
      Good luck with your project!
