Allen Lyle: Construction & Design Week 2015 is officially in the history books and it was quite a week. With nearly 4,000 exhibitors, it was a tough decision, but here are a few of our show favorites.
Rev-A-Shelf introduced several new in-cabinet storage units, including this nifty knife holder and a pull-down storage rack that fits neatly inside a wall cabinet.
Emmevi Rubinetterie—it may be a mouthful, but the big focus there was on a famous nose. This Pinocchio inspired faucet is a great addition for any kids’ bathroom.
Speaking of bathrooms, how about this take on the 21st century toilet from ToileChic. It looks like a finely upholstered chair, but with a non-porous fabric, it’s a snap to keep clean and turns any bathroom into an elegant sitting room.
If you make midnight trips to the bathroom, a night-light is always convenient, but not as simple and convenient as this night-light from SnapPower. Simply change the cover plate and you’ve installed this unique LED night light in less than a minute.
One of my favorite feel-good products comes from Native Trails. This is a repurposed wine barrel hand-crafted by local artisans from California’s wine valleys.
Keep your toes toasty warm by installing your own floor warming system. Schluter’s Ditra-Heat makes it simple, plus saves time on the entire installation.
One of the biggest buzzes this year came from GE who merged one of their refrigerators with a Keurig. Over 400 of your favorite beverages can be dispensed right from the door of your fridge.
DaVinci makes some of the best composite roofing you can find, and this year they’re showcasing a slate look-a-like. I kid you not, you have to put your hands on it and you still think it’s true slate.
Speaking of composite, Royal Building Products has three new profiles of their weather-resistant, easy-to-maintain sidings, including a really great-looking board and batten.
Trex has long been a great choice for composite decking, but now they’ve combined their colors to match some fantastic outdoor cabinetry designed to last as long as your deck.
And Phantom Screens has added a smart feature to their motorized screens. The Smart Stop does just what its name implies. If the screen hits an object on the way down, it immediately stops the motor, avoiding any potential damage.
And, finally, at the Quikrete booth, Custom Building Products demonstrated the features of their Fusion Pro Grout. No mixing needed, color consistency, easy to clean up, and its unsurpassed stain-blocking means no sealing is needed ever.
