The Kuppersmith Project 13: Grand Tour

When the last of the renovation and remodeling work on the Kuppersmith Project house was complete, Joe Boehm and the design team from Better Homes & Gardens and Renovation Style magazines spent two weeks furnishing and decorating the empty house to turn it into a beautiful showplace home.

After over six months of hard work, it’s finally time to take the grand tour!

Front entrance

Front Entrance

Behind the rustic charm of our custom cypress front door, with its Schlage LiNK locking system, is the entry area. The window seat and informal hanging space for coats and bags is the first clue that this is a home to be lived in, not just looked at.

Living room

Living Room

The living room is slightly more formal than the entry, but still very comfortable. The fabrics, furniture and accessories work wonderfully with the warmth of the heart pine wood floors and the natural light offered by all the windows.

StaircaseThe centerpiece of the living room is the unique faux granite fireplace mantel we worked so hard to preserve.

Staircase

Removing part of the second floor staircase landing really opened up the space. I can just imagine the family photos that will be taken here in the years ahead, with a son or daughter coming down the stairs before their first prom or on their wedding day.

Upstairs Bedrooms

The two smaller bedrooms upstairs seem larger than they are, thanks to plenty of daylight streaming through the windows. The new woodwork we created in the home’s traditional style could make you swear it was original to the house when it was built in 1926.

Upstairs bedroom

The larger upstairs bedroom has lots of room and natural light, and the nook created by the dormer is the perfect spot for a reading chair.

Dining Room

The formal dining room has all the elegance you’d expect in a home of this age.

Dining room

The splashes of color from the china cabinets and wallpaper panels are set off by the light pouring in the bay windows.

Kitchen

The simple clean lines of the Merillat kitchen cabinets provides lots of storage space while the DeNova granite countertop on the island contrasts nicely with the quartz countertops flanking the Bertazzoni gas range and GE Appliances.

Kitchen
The Broan vent hood over the range, and colorful glass tile backsplash give the kitchen on this historic house a more contemporary feel.

Family Room

Off the kitchen is the family room, with a view of the backyard through the massive sliding glass doors.

Master Bedroom

The master bedroom suite is exactly the relaxing retreat it should be.

Master bedroom

Views of the backyard and access to the porch add to the open feeling from the raised ceiling.

Master Bathroom

The master bath has ample room with its double vanities and vaulted ceiling.

But the most popular features will be the BainUltra vessel tub and oversized shower with Moen ioDIGITAL controls.

Back Porch

The back porch with its Fiberon composite decking and motorized, retractable Phantom Screens will be great for outdoor entertaining.

Back porch and paver patio

Paver Patio

The paver patio in the backyard is the perfect transition from the porch to the beautiful back lawn while the sound of flowing water in the fountain adds a soothing soundtrack for relaxing.

Hidden out of sight, the Generac standby generator will provide needed security in the event of a power outage.

Interior of garage

Garage

Garages are meant to be functional, and thanks to the central vacuum from NuTone and cool storage system from Gladiator GarageWorks, the Kuppersmith garage will do that and a whole lot more.

We would also like to thank CertaPro painters, FrogTape painter’s tape, and Rust-Oleum paints for their support of the Kuppersmith Project.

Bowl covered with coffee filter in microwave oven

Simple Solutions with Joe Truini:
Uses for Coffee Filters

Paper coffee filters have many uses in addition to filtering coffee. They’re also great for lining the bottom of flower pots, as packing material between plates and bowls, for use in cleaning glass, and to cover food containers before heating in the microwave.

American Standard EcoFusion Toilet

Best New Products with Jodi Marks:
American Standard EcoFusion Toilet

Dual-flush toilets are a great way to save water, but they can be expensive. That’s no longer a problem, thanks to the EcoFusion from American Standard. The EcoFusion features two flushing buttons, one for liquids (0.9 gallons per flush) and a second for solids (1.6 gallons per flush). The EcoFusion toilet is available at The Home Depot.

Cotton growing in field

Thinking Green:
Advantages of Organic Cotton

While all cotton comes from natural plants, organic cotton is grown without the use of toxic pesticides and synthetic fertilizer. This can make a big difference for the environment, since growing cotton uses more insecticide than any other single major crop. So for a green alternative, look for the “organic cotton” label the next time you shop.
