4. Upgrade Your Appliances
Want to really maximize energy-efficiency? Consider new heating and cooling systems, appliances and lighting.
If you have properly insulated the interior, you can simply add a smart thermostat to control climate throughout your home.
As far as appliances go, it might seem like a big investment at first, but upgrading to energy-efficient models would be a wise long-term decision. Choose smart models that you can control with your smartphone to optimize energy consumption.
Lastly, invest in LED lighting or smart lighting to place lights on timers, control output and minimize energy consumption, especially when a room is not in use.
5. Optimize Water Consumption
Finally, be sure to minimize water consumption in the bathroom and kitchen. Simply install faucet aerators, replace your regular showerhead with a low-flow one, and replace your toilet with a low-flow one, or retrofit it to become a dual-flush unit.
Consider investing in a smart dishwasher as well and embrace some healthier habits by taking shorter showers and closing the taps if you’re not using them (when soaping the dishes, or lathering your hands, for example).
